Congratulations on living to be a senior. Not everybody makes it.

Now that you have, there are some things you need to know. If you don’t already know everything, and who does, there are a few things you will need to learn.

Especially if you are a baby boomer and don’t know much yet.

As a senior citizen you are going to learn more about your body than you ever wanted to know. Senior health will make you become an expert on your parts, one by one. At your age they tend to wear out. You will learn about many operations and procedures, either yours or others.

Speaking of bodies, maybe you will join the world of senior nudists. Go ahead and click. I dare you!

If you are smart, senior fitness will become an important aspect of your life. Being fit can help you to live longer. It also will help you feel better and lead an active life. So will good senior nutrition.

You are going to learn a lot about medicines. Now is the time to learn how to set the alarm on your watch. Then you can take your meds at the right times.

You will become an expert on Medicare and Medicare prescription drug plans (PDPs), whether you want to or not. Don’t know what Part D is? You will. It just seems to happen that way. If your income is low enough, you also will become an expert on Medicaid.

If you live long enough, retirement will happen. Hopefully you will be ready for it, because you will retire or be retired by your employer. That doesn’t necessarily mean no more work. You may start a new career.

Sooner or later you will receive Social Security payments. At last some of that money comes back.

Depending on your finances, you may want a reverse mortgage to take some of the equity out your home.

Your senior living situation may change. You can move to a senior living community. Senior living services may be needed. Assisted living or a nursing home may figure in your future as part of an elder care program.

Once you’re not working as much, senior travel may be part of your life. You can spend a bundle or very little, depending on what you do. Watch for those senior discounts.

With more time on your hands you may choose to become active in senior politics. Or you can become a senior volunteer for something.

If you’re single or your spouse dies you will be eligible for senior dating. There are a lot of senior singles. If dating is new for you, you are about to learn that things have changed.
